The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a Tony Award-winning musical comedy that centers on an eclectic group of six awkward, mid-pubescent spellers competing for the ultimate championship prize. Presided over by three equally quirky grown-ups, the contestants candidly disclose their hilarious, heartwarming, and sometimes heartbreaking home lives, anxieties, and desires as they spell their way through a series of increasingly difficult words.
Come and cheer for Chip, Marcy, Leaf, Logainne, Olive, and William Barfée! It’s a riotous competition filled with unforgettable songs, audience participation, and a whole lot of heart.
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee explores mature themes and uses strong language, making it generally recommended for ages 13 and older. This production utilizes the alternate version of the script, which includes minor adjustments and cuts to the language while preserving the entirety of the show's original message and comedic intent.
